Member Focus: Thomas

Each month in our Member Focus series, we give you an insight into the life of an ACT member. This month, we spoke to Thomas.

Hi Thomas! Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I'm a secondary science teacher in Surrey. I am married to Jenny, who is also a teacher.

What encouragements have you seen as a Christian in your school?

I work at an independent school with a Christian ethos. The founder's prayer is often said at assemblies and the school hymn captures a lot of the gospel truth. We have christian unions for students and a prayer group attended by parents and members of staff.

What challenges are there for Christians in your school?

While there is a weekly chapel service, some students are not very engaged. We (myself included) are sometimes too busy - and perhaps wrongly prioritise tasks over relationships with those around us.

How can we pray for you in your context?

I think 1 Peter 3:15 sums it up well: 'But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect...' (NIV). So please pray that I would revere Christ as Lord in my heart, live out the gospel, and be ready to give the reason for the hope that I have with gentleness and respect.
