Exploring Beliefs in Action in the World

Edited by Joyce Mackley

Rating:

Another excellent resource in the Exploring series, Exploring Beliefs in Action in the World, edited by Joyce Mackley, is great for primary teachers and a useful resource for any classroom.  It provides activities for Foundation Stage, KS1 and KS2 children.  The pages are clearly laid out and very eye catching.  There are ‘I can’ statements which can be linked to assessment.  Many of the activities lend themselves to cross curricular links in, for example, role play PSHE and ICT.

The book covers giving, healing, helping others, sacred beliefs and standing up for justice.  There is a mainly Christian focus, but the topics covered could be applied to many other religions as they explore ‘practical actions believers make in response to their beliefs and values’ There are many stories and a few poems used to help deliver the topics.  There are biblical references to the stories, and these stories lend themselves very well to discussions as well as role play.  Also, there are useful photocopiable pages.  The activities in this book are linked to the QCA Non-Statutory Framework for RE.

There are many suggestions for using other resources such as web page links and other books. For those who subscribe to RE Today, there is a wealth of additional resources and ready materials for the classroom.
